Random Choices

Call me crazy, but is it not a conflict of interest that the Pepsi machine in my office sells COKE? I guess they decided to put aside their differences and work together to make money? Haa. Whatever.

The Joys of My Job

This is an email conversation I had today. For history, the lady I work with has it out for me and has printed emails I've sent her before and given to my boss simply because she didn't like my tone I guess.

So in an attempt to avoid her doing that again, I sent her an email today---then forwarded to my boss to cover myself. I just had a feeling she would be pissed, so I figured I'd beat her to the punch. It went like this (I'm sorry, you have to start at the bottom, I couldn't get it to cut the way I wanted it. Work in reverse order, like a regular email):

(5) From: THE MAN To: me
10-4.
Alternate email.

dear *lady*,

I am really uncomfortable trying to call everyone that does not make a payment. Every E&O class that I have been to warns against doing this unless you are sure that you will never miss one. I will try to let you know when I see one that is going cancel as you know who in addition to the insured who to call or if you even want to try and save it.
Thanks,
**signed

(4) From: me To: THE MAN (boss)
I just have a feeling I should send you this. That way if it gets printed out, you will already know.

(3) From: me To: lady
No. I’m not calling because if I do it once, I have to do it every month. I know you sometimes call, but I’m not going there. It’s too much of a liab and I don’t want to have him bring that up if he ever cancels when I didn’t call. You can call if you want. I just thought I’d let you know he was pending…

(2) From: lady To: me
Did you call his mom?

(1) From: me To: lady
I tried to email *guy* to let him know policy is pending cancellation for tomorrow. Thought I’d just let you know (email came back to me as undeliverable).

End of conversation. I just love a job where it is my "job" to kiss ass. On my last day, when I find another job and give them 1 day notice that I'm out, I'm leaving the office throwing papers in the air and middle fingers flying.

Soul Mate

Who believes in soul mates? I have to say though I'm not a hopeless romantic really, I do believe that there is one person for everybody--a soul mate. Some of us are lucky enough to end up with that person; others not so lucky--too late maybe.

My theory is this: sometimes by the time we encounter our soul mate, one of the pair is already complacent in a relationship that was not intended for him. What I'm saying is that sometimes people settle with someone that they should be with. And when true love comes into their life--or the possibility of true love--they are preoccupied with something else.

Then they are left looking back wondering "what if"....which we all know sucks. The idea of what could have been--whether it would have been or not--is brutal. Its an idea that consumes you, and every thought you have somehow leads back to the "what if". Wouldn't it be easier if we were all honest with our emotions and followed our hearts, rather than lean toward what's easiest.

There should be cliff notes when it comes to love and finding your special someone that was just made for you--that way we wouldn't totally be cheating, but would be guided down the right path to meet Prince (or Princess) Charming and live happily ever after instead of pondering something from the past.

My Baby's Daddies

Does anyone watch "Bones"? Its one of my favorite shows and I now have a new thing for Agent Booth -- David Boreanaz. I am IN LOVE WITH HIM. It probably just his character on the show, but he's just so damn charming and witty. I could see us linking up and moving to the Caribbean and working in our garden of ganja! We would have some pretty babies...

And then there is Cole Hauser---he played Carter Varone in "2 Fast, 2 Furious". Man o man....What I wouldn't do for a couple minutes with him. He's got that whole tough guy air about him, yet he's just so slick with it. Yikes. He could chew tobacco and drive a pinto and I would still ride right beside him, grinning the whole way.

Of course there are the usuals, like Reggie Bush, David Beckham or Brad Pitt---but Cole Hauser and David Boreanaz are my men. I think people are sleeping on them, but that's fine--leaves more for me. I'm just waiting to see him in Food Lion one day, where I will gently bump into them with my cart and then from there the rest will be a story book ending.

Oh boys. What fun we could have.....

Movies I Secretly Love

--You've Got Mail (I swear I watch it every time it comes on TV. Funny thing is I wanted to stab my best friend for making me go see it when it was in the theaters. But I love it; I don't even know why. Its so cute.)

--Nanny McPhee (I watch this like every time too. Its just a cute movie and everyone in the movies learns something. Haha. They made Nanny McPhee look pretty!)

--James Bond, but the Sean Connery ones (man, he was such a pimp....all that chest hair and he was kind old then but still pulled the girls. Gotta give him props. I can watch those little marathons all day.)

--Bonnie & Clyde (old school, with Faye Dunaway & Warren Beatty, makes me want to be Bonnie.)

--The Alfred Hitchcock movies (old ones, with James Stewart; they were on one day and I watched them over and over....The Man Who Knew Too Much---I'll sing "Que Sera, Sera" for like 2 weeks and swear I sound as good as Doris Day.)

More Pet Peeves In the Workplace

People who talk on the speakerphone with their doors open, disrupting the whole office. Or people that call you while on speakerphone and then act annoyed when they can't hear you or have to keep repeating themselves. Pick up the phone, you lazy ass.

Co-workers who cut their nails at their desk. Disgusting, nothing more to say.

People who walk around asking "who's in the conference room?" any time there is a visitor. Obviously its not for you, so mind your own business.

Leaving the copy machine lid open. Just close it. Really. One second, if that--just take the time.

Asking someone to look up a phone number or some other minor detail because you are too lazy to walk back to your computer and look it up yourself. (Is it just me, or is there a common theme of laziness throughout my pet peeves?)

In the parking lot, when small cars can't seem to fit between the lines. There are too many people trying to park for a freaking Mazda to take up two spaces. Either learn to park or take the bus.

Receptionists who ring your office 3 times with the same call, then come back to look and see why you can't answering. If I didn't answer, maybe--JUST MAYBE--I'm busy. That's why God created voicemail.

A Serious Thought

I'm not really a politically charged person, and I don't really think this is the forum to express anything I would ever have to say about politics, but I do have a few thoughts. Yesterday was a snow day, so I got to stay home and watch our new President. There are so many different opinions and perceptions of our new president. But here's my take....

If yesterday didn't touch you in some way, I don't think you are human. Regardless of if you agree with his stand on the issues or not, it says alot for our country that we can come to the point to elect and support a minority. It was just a big day and holds alot of strength that if we are smart, we can grow upon.

And whether or not you agree with him or voted for him, I would think that we all should want to see him succeed--for the sake of our country and for our own sake. We should all want to suppport our leader, so that he can help turn us onto an upward path. At this point, he is the president, no turning back from that---so be supportive. It makes no sense for people to still be bashing him. It makes no sense for people to want to see him fail, for for the sake of being about to say "I told you so" because if he fails, we all fail.

Its time to set aside our differences and all embark on a new journey together, There's power, strength and safety in numbers.
